Jacobs/Ryan Associates (JRA) joined a team of architects and engineers at Dewberry to provide site renovations to increase effi ciency
of the existing parking lot and to provide stormwater management improvements. The landscape design of the new parking lots on
the southwest portion of this 73 acre site blends restored natural prairie landscaping and traditional cultural landscape design with
increased pedestrian circulation system. The new plan is characterized by a more pedestrian friendly campus environment where
there are fewer confl icts between pedestrians and vehicles. Site pedestrian circulation has been improved and more protected to
direct pedestrians to the southern entrance to the building for security screening. Pedestrian circulation routes encourage movements
which reduce the use of automobiles, and are ADA accessible. Wide tree-lined sidewalks form the core experience to provide more
eventual shade on site. The curved south entry drive brings in a vocabulary of curving tree canopies. The paths also create harmony
thereby contributing to the visual comprehension of the landscape. The entry area is accented with decorative pavements and other site
furnishings. Rain gardens in the lots clean and fi lter water, while detention basins collect and store stormwater to keep the lots dry.
